The transnational life course: an integrated and unified theoretical concept for migration research

Migration research developed significantly in the past decades. However, with life course approach and concept of transnational migration, there are still two different, as yet largely unconnected conceptual perspectives on migration. Both approaches have their merits but also shortcomings. This paper tries to overcome these shortcomings by combining advantages both suggest a unified theoretical courses (TNLC). TNLC builds multidimensional understanding migration that (potential) migrants live multiple social cultural spaces leading parallel assimilation dissimilation processes. perspective is merged its chronologically ordered causality relying preceding determinants subsequent outcomes form events periods. Based data provided German Emigration Remigration Panel Study (GERPS) some simple empirical analyses were conducted illustrate potential approach.
